Pre- High School- I did a few local races, such as 4th of July/charity 5ks. I mainly just ran for fun, and to get a feel for running. I didn't do a lot of training or workouts until Jr. High track started. As high school got closer, i started to get more serious.

Freshman Year- I decided to run xc for Weber High School. I ran very little over the summer, and had a rough start to the season. Despite the rough start, I got faster and was able to run on the varsity team more often than not. I dropped my 3 mile time to 17:04, but didn't make it to State. I finnished the season at Footlocker west regionals. I didn't prepare well and placed 22nd in the freshman race. (4th from Utah) Indoor track started and I wanted to break 5 really bad, but ended up running 5:02 at Simplot. When outdoor track started I was really anxious to win. I practiced with the high school as much as possible, despite running for Snowcrest Jr. High. I won a few outdoor meets, and dropped my mile time to a 4:40. At the district meet I took 2nd in the mile to Bronson Winter. During the 800m, I got a PR of 2:07.

Sophomore Year- I put in a good summer of running and was super excited for xc. I was now the 2nd man on the team. I had some really great races and continued to improve. I finished the regular season with a 16:00 5k. At footlocker west, i had a good race but not quite where i had hoped. Indoor came around and i had some nice PR's before i got bursitis in my left knee. Got better and transitioned to outdoor where the season started off well. After running my PR of 4:23 1600m, i got really sick and never got back to 100% during the season. I ended up at 9:41 for 2 miles, and 2:05 800m. I didn't have the performance I wanted at state, but im ready for the next year.

I will be a Junior at Weber High School this year. I'm LDS, and will be serving a 2 year mission after High School. I love animals, hiking/ fishing with my dad, and running with my friends.

I started my summer training today. Some of the guys from Weber and I made a goal of running 500 miles this summer to get ready for xc. 

3.5 mile run this morning, before visiting the cemeteries. Then an aditional 3.5 in the evening on some trails around Pineview Reservoir to get up to 7. They weren't horribly fast, but the goal right now is to just ease into the training after my short break, and get my mileage back up.

Fairly easy 3.5 this morning at about 7 in the pouring rain. 

Did an additional 4 miles tonight: 2 mile warm up/shakeout run, then a 2 mile tempo at last years 3 mile PR pace. (5:41min/mile) but I was feelin good and took it at a 5:37 pace, or 11:15 total.

Ran a few miles to and from the park to play some soccer/ football. Then 4 more this evening. Pretty painful couple of runs today, but I guess that's just how it goes some times.

Pretty tough workout today, all on trails. 

I started with a 1.5 mile warm up/ shakeout, then did:

2x1600m at a 5:35 pace,

2x800m at 2:30 pace,

2x400m at 1:14 pace. I had a 1 to 1 break between all of them.

I did an aditional two miles late after work.

Hard 4.5 this morning up middle fork with my dad. Slower pace but lots of hill practice so that's a plus. I did an additional 3 miles with Brayden, and passed Henry on the way.

Moderate 5 ish run this morning with the xc team. Then some soccer with Talon, bj, and some of the girls. Then a 2.5 miler late tonight. Last mile was barely sub-5 (4:59) haha

Pretty rough day today.... I dont know why, but it was just hard.

2 mile warm up, then a 2.5 mile tempo run at last years 3 mile PR pace. I was feeling awful, and cut it short at 2. I finnished with a short cool down. Hopefully tomorrow is better. I think it was just an off day.

Felt great today, despite the awful run yesterday. I was going to go for a slower 4-5 in the evening but decided to go 7 miles at about 3:00 P.M. It was a tough run up to the top of the old trappers loop road but I hit a pretty solid average pace. (6:26)

It actually felt really good to just run hard and sweat a bit.

Team practice today. We did a 6.1 mile run on the North Arm Trail. I went on another 2.5 miler to make up for missed miles on Tuesday.

Weird day today...

I was planning on doing 8-10 400's, but I didn't start until later, and I only go 6 in and a 2 mile warm up before I had to go to work. I got home from work late and didn't have time to finish, but my long run tomorrow will make up for it.

Today I decided to do a stepping stone workout. I ran 2 miles to the park then did 5 min hard, 5 min easy all the way down to 1 minute. I ended up doing 5 miles throughout the stepping stone. Then I took a shorter 1.5 mile route home.

Fast 7 miler with the xc team. We ran on the Ogden parkway, and around the lake/ pond. It feels good to run some more fast miles.

I went for 2 miles early on in the day. Then I ran a mile to a meeting about Ragnar next weekend. After the meeting I decided to do a hill workout. I ran a couple more miles to a pretty steep hill. After about a miles worth of repeats I ran a few miles home.

2.75 ish miles to and from the church gym around noon. Right after my run the thermometer said 93 degrees (in the sun) so it was a hot one. I did 4.25 ish later tonight, then a few strides after. One of the best runs I have had all summer. Probably because it wasn't too far haha.

First day of Ragnar. It was one of the best experiences of my entire life. I just ran on a local team in my neighborhood with people of all ages.   I ran my first leg 7.5 miles up the back of Avon pass at a 7:30 pace. Then my second leg was supposed to be 9.5 miles but there wasn't a sign and some other runners and I got lost so I ended up running 11.5 miles at a 6:30 pace. Brayden Youngberg filled in for a kid who dropped out after his first leg.

Addison your calves must be magnificent from all those miles, I am so proud of you and want you to improve so much, but at the same time I would hate it if you beat my times.

So I decided to run the founders day 5k last night at about 11:30 haha. I wasn't feeling like going for a or, but about halfway through I decided to go for it and ended up getting a big pr. I just ghost ran it, but I would have won my age division by almost 4 minutes.

I did an easy 2.5 miles earlier today. Then I decided to do a little pacing workout. I warmed up than ran the first mile of Saturday's race course at pace for a sub-17 minute 5k (5:28) I took a 2 minute break then ran the second mile of the course. Same thing for the third mile. Then I ran home for a cool down.

I just went out on a super easy 7 mile run, because I have a race tomorrow. I normally wouldn't run 7 miles the day before a race but I need the summer miles.

I ended up finnishing in 6th place with a 17:11. I wanted to finnish in the top 3 but 6th was fine because the only people who beat me were a BYU xc runner, two college runners from Oklahoma, Travis Feeney and a 20 something year old from my neighborhood.

Practice with the xc team today. We ran on the trails above Weber State. I ran with jake on the way out, but then we both got lost and ran some extra before we found each other. I ended up running 5 miles.

So I was kinda dumb and decided that I would combine a tempo workout and a hill workout in the same day... Not a good plan. 

I started with a 1.5 mile warm up. Then did a 2.5 mile tempo run over to some hills. (5:45 pace) Then I did a mile of repeats up a pretty steep hill at pace for a 5:10 mile. Then I cooled down for 2.5 miles, and finnished with 800m of strides.

We had a team practice today at North Arm trail. I ran a slow and VERY muddy 5 miles with Brayden and Jake. Then later tonight I ran another 3 miles.

Track workout today. I decided to do a 1.5 mile warm up, then 1x1200m, 3x800m, 3x400m, and 4x200m with a 1:1 rest.

1200m- 3:27     800m- 2:20, 2:33 ( felt awful on that one), 2:17.    400m- 1:02, 1:07, 1:06.   

200m- 29, 29,29, 28.    I felt great the entire workout except for that one 800. My splits were faster than my mile pr pace of 4:40 by quite a bit so I was happy.

6 mile uphill trail run this morning at an ok pace. Then a few hours after I got home my neck started to hurt a lot so we went to the doctors and they took some x-rays, and apparently I had a big muscle spasm in my neck. They gave me some pretty strong meds, and said that I can't run for 3-4 days because that would make it flare up, but I ran another easy 2 miles tonight because I felt rebellious. Hopefully it gets better soon.

There was a team practice today at North Fork. We just ran 3 miles up to the waterfall but it was pretty steep. I ended up doing about 4 or 5 because Henry got lost and Sam and I were trying to find him. He was halfway to Canada before someone found him. 

I ran another 4 tonight just to get more miles in. The muscle relaxant medication that I have to take for the muscle spasm makes my legs all weird and I can't really get them to move at a fast pace, but I was able to run it at a 6:10 pace so not too bad.

Practice with the team on the Ogden parkway trail this morning. I ended up going 7 miles and I did it at almost exactly a 6:00 pace. I think that was the fastest 7 miles I have ever run. (Maybe it was the pouring rain, or my training is actually paying off haha)

I ran an easy 3 this morning before I left with the team to Bear Lake. Once we got there we did a long run. It was super hot and I was already tired but I was able to do 9 miles at 6:30 pace so it wasn't too bad but not as fast as I should have done a 9 miler.

We had another practice with the whole team today. It was an easy day because most of us were pretty sore. We did an 800m warm up, then 3x800. I ran mine in 2:30, 2:26, and 2:21 so not very close to where I should have been but whatever. We finished with a 3 mile cool down. 

Later today I went back up to bear lake, because I'm staying there with Brayden for 3 days. We did another 3 miles tonight in Paris Idaho.

Brayden and I went on a 3.25 mile run around Paris this morning. Then tonight we went for an adventurous (and very easy) 4 miler. We stumbled upon a pen of 8 full sized pigs and spent a few minutes attempting to touch one, when we found some goats running loose through the farm. After chasing the goats we decided that we better leave before the farmer gets us arrested for trespassing and disturbing livestock. About a mile later, both Brayden and I strongly felt the urg to use the restroom but we were in the middle of nowhere so we kept going. Then all of a sudden 2 conveniently located port-a-potties appeared. After a breif stop we continued on our run. We ended up revisiting the pigs several more times.

Moderately hard 4.55 miles tonight. I'm kind of ready to be done with my summer miles and just get going with the season, but I have a feeling that during the season I'm going to really miss my summer exploration runs and my sporadic 7 milers at 9:00 P.M. Hahaha.

The team had practice today at Paul's house. We ran up to the canal road then onto another trail that continued up the mountain. It was a ratty hard run Andy quads were pretty sore after. I ran with Jake and we trailed Talon. About a 7:00 average pace on the way up. It ended up being about 5 miles. 

Later tonight I ran 3 fairly easy miles.

6 mile run with the team today. Talon, Paul, brayden and I went out at a pretty comfortable pace. We started out on some trails above Weber State, then ran to the mouth of Taylor's canyon. From there we decided to run up waterfall canyon then back to WSU. We took a short break at the waterfall, then took it back fast.

Talon, Jake, Brayden, Gavin and I have been planning to run to Ben Lomond peak and we finally did it today. Got out on an early start at about 6:15 a.m. It was about 8 miles up to the peak, and we passed the ultra marathoners running the Skyline 50k, and spotted a herd of mountain goats below us. It was a pretty tough run, but super fun. I also did another .25 miles to get to 16

Now it's time for "heat week" and 3:00 p.m. practices!

Heat week started today, so practices are at 2. We only did 5.5 miles, but that was plenty because it was pretty hot. Jake and I trailed Talon, as usual, and we finnished at a 6:25 pace. Hopefully we get used to the heat quick, and can get back to our faster miles. 

I went for a 2.5 mile run later today with my dog.

We ran down Weber High drive to highway 89 today. We started out running the first 1.5 miles at an easy pace (6:13) Then we did the next 2 miles at close to race pace. Jake and I ran the tempo at about a 5:15 pace. After the tempo we did the last 1.5 miles at a really easy pace. Abs after.

Today we had a circuit workout at shady lane. We warmed up over to the park, then did some strides. For the circuit we would run a 400 around the park, then do a set of core exercises. Jake and I pushed it together and made it around 17 times in the 30 minutes. It ended up being about 4.25 miles. Out pace was about 5:00 for the 400's. Cool down back to Weber. Plus another .5 because Brayden and I ran over from his house.

We ran out to the elk farms today on the canal road. I ran with Jake on the way out (6:24 avg) but pulled ahead on the way back and tried to stay close to Talon (6:10 avg.)

Track workout in the heat today. 800m warm up, then 3x1,200m and an 800m. My first 12 was 4:04, second 12 was 4:00, third was 3:52, and the 800m was 2:25. We finnished it off with another 800m for a cool down.

I ran up big mountain on the pioneer trail with Brayden today. My dad wanted to hike it to see if he could take his BYU students up there, so I decided that it would be a good long run for us. It was a pretty cool run and we scared some dude with his dogs and he ended up falling.

Today we had a workout on the track. We did an 800m warm up then 12x 400m repeats. I did all of mine between 67 and 71 so not too bad. We finished with another 800m cool down.

Today we just ran the course for our meet tomorrow with Sky View. We just took it really easy and got a feel for the course. I ran it in 18 minutes. Later tonight I went on a 9 mile bike ride.

Today was the dual meet. I wasn't too nervousness but I wanted to do well because this race determined varsity position. We warmed up to Lomond view elementary (1.5 miles) We started the race and I got right into the top pack. Jake was with me until the half way mark then I dropped him and tried to stay with Conner Compton. I got on his tail and we trailed Talon and Ethan Field. Conner beat me by 2 seconds but I placed 4th overall and got my spot as Weber's number 2 varsity. After the race Brayden and I went for a 2 mile cool down with Conner and Ethan.

Grass relays today. I ran the first leg of the varsity and Talon anchored. I warmed up for about a mile and practiced on the hay bales. Then I raced. My split was 10:44 and my first mile was only 4 seconds off my mile pr (4:44) which is probably because kids like Garek Bielaczyc was in my race. After the race we did a 2 mile cool down.

We ran down to to shady lane park and did some mile repeats. Brayden and I did 3 then left for sports massages. My first 3 were 5:20's. Later tonight i went back to a park and did 2 more repeats and an 800. The miles were 5:15 and 5:10. The 800 was a 2:15

Today was just an easy run out on the canal road to get ready for the meet. Jake and I didn't go super easy because we are just pacing some of the slower varsity runners, so we're not going for any pr's or anything.

Today was the dual meet against Northridge. Jake had looked at some times and found that they had 2 guys who would be a little bit slower than us, but since we had to pace this race we thought we were just going to have to watch those guys run away from us without being able to do anything about it. As it turns out, they weren't on our level of speed, hahaha so we beat them even though we had to hold back and pace our other runners. 

I ended up taking 2nd to Talon, as usual. Once we hit the two mile mark Chili said we could just go all out, so thats where I passed Jake and started going hard. It was actually a pretty fun and easy race.

Fast run today. We did 7.5 and we were supposed to go pretty hard. I ran with Jake for a while, then moved ahead. Then as usual, right when I hit 6 miles I have to crap. So today was one of coach Hansen's crazy circuits. Im not even going to try to explain it because most of the time I had no idea what I was doing, but Brayden, Paul, and I ended up doing 8 sets of stairs (all the way around the bleachers was 1 set) and a ton of burpies and squats. It was ok, though because my rear end could use some good toning.

Today was the day we've all been dreading. 16x 400 meters. Last year I felt like death during this workout, so I wasn't really looking forward it this year. 

We started out with an easy warm up, then got started. Jake and I were supposed to be hitting 71-72's, but Chili told us we should try to do the whole thing under 70's, which has only been done by a few kids at Weber ever. Jake and I ran together at the bigining then I pushed a little faster for the rest. We both ended up doing the whole thing under 70's so that was great. My spits were 67, 66, 66, 66, 67, 68, 66, 68, 66, 67, 66, 67, 67, 69, 66, 64. Then we finished with a short cool down.

Long run today. We did 10 miles down past Orion Jr. High, then up to mountain road, along to the canal, then back on the canal to Weber. It was just Jake and I, and we both felt awful. I managed to run it at a 6:10 pace, and Jake was just a few minutes behind.

This race was awful. They had made a course adjustment from last year, and the new path went through the dustiest stuff i've ever seen, and made the course slower. Not to mention how hot it was. 

As soon as my race started, I new it was going to hurt, a lot. My legs were already sore and tired. I ended up taking 13th, but I got the shirt, and i've wanted that shirt since last year so that kind of helped. I was 1:35 off the winning time.

So it was pouring rain today, and we weren't allowed to hold the city county race. This was actually probably a blessing because I havn't really been feeling very good this whole week.

Instead of the actual meet we just did our own meet, sort of. The slowest person went first and the fastest went last, so theoretically we should all finnish at the exact same time, but that never happens. I ended up running a 16:03, so no PR, but thats ok. It was still fun.

Today was the torch run. We ran the torch from Northridge to Weber for the homecomming football game. We each were assigned to a group, and each group had certain legs to run. Brayden and I found a massive cactus, and after I dug it out with a conveniently placed crowbar we took it on the bus. Then for no apparent reason, McKenna threw it out the window, this led to some extreme rage from me and Brayden, because we had sacrificed our hands for that cactus. 

Henry, Jake, Talon, Brayden, and I all decided to run extra legs just for fun, so we all ran close to a half marathon. We found lots more random artifacts including a tail pipe that fell off a car. Most of these items myseriously disapeared before we got to Weber...

Wahsatch Rendezvous was today. I ran in the #2 varsity runner race and took 2nd to Adam Jensen, who was Lone Peak's fastest runner, but happened to be in the 2nd race. My time of 16:15 put me in 8th place over all. 56 seconds off the winner (Talon Hull). This course is pretty comparable to the State course.

Hard hill workout today up 500 West. We did 10 repeats up the almost .25 mile hill. Most of my splits were 1:30's. We had the heart rate monitors out and we based our recovery time off of our heart beat. Talon and I didn't get a lot of recovery because by the time we had jogged to the bottom, our hear rate had recovered so we had to go again.

Today we raced Roy. We knew we would win so it was just kind of for fun/ practice. Chili had us do a longer warm up, then told us that we needed to make the last mile of the race our fastest mile. I felt good and ran relaxed. I ended up breaking 16 but it was 2.95 so converted it wasn't quite in the 15's, so bummer that I didn't really PR, but I will eventually.

4x 1 mile repeats, and 2x 800's. We ran down to Shady lane park and ran on our mile repeat course. I was having a really bad day today, and barely hit my times for the miles. (5:20) Everyone was giving out after 4 so Chili said we could break the 5th mile into 2 800's. This was much easier and I beat my times on both of them. After the workout we ran back to Weber.

We finally had City-County today. I was nervous, and just really wanted to finally get a PR. Ogden was our biggest competition and we had our work cut out to beat them. We ended up taking 2nd as a team, just missing the win by 7 points. Talon was only 2 seconds behind Alek Parsons, and I took 6th. I got a new PR. (3 mile converted: 15:51) I beat the Winter twins and was the fastest Sophomore in the race.

8x 800m repeats at Shady lane park today. I was supposed to be hitting 2:34's. We got started and it was really hurting so I took a 2:1 break instead of 1:1 in between the 4th and 5th repeat. I ended up being faster than my time despite the pain. My splits ended up being: 2:24, 2:27, 2:30, 2:30, 2:32, 2:33, 2:30, and 2:28.

We started with a warm up to Lomend view elementary, then met on the track. This is our last hard day before region so I just wanted a solid workout. We were doing ladders: 400m, 800m, 1200m, 800m, 2x400m. I was feeling good and hit some good paces. 1:06, 2:24, 3:44, 2:26, 1:05, and 1:01. We finished up with a short cool down.

Region championships today!!! I had a really great race and got a huge PR. I ended up placing 4th overall. The entire team did really well. Both the boys teams ended up taking 1st, and for the varsity team, it was the first region win in 26 years!!!

State championships were today. I was pretty nervous all day, i think that didn't help my race. I ended up placing 29th in 5A, missing my goal of top 21. Talon had a great race and took 2nd in 5A. As a team we missed our goal of 3rd but ended up getting 5th. I'm kind of bummed about my race but it will be good experience for next year.

Today I decided to go for a short run up Middle Fork on the 4.5 mile loop. It's incredibly steep and rocky but I ended up smashing my previous best time and got an average pace of 7:09. After the run I did some more hill repeats to make sure that my quads were completely destroyed.

Today was a 5 to 1 minute stepping stone (5min hard, 5 easy, 4 hard etc.) at Lomond view park. I was feeling pretty good and lapped everyone at least once, but that big hill was killer. I'm pretty sure I ran up it more today than I did last week when we did repeats up it.

Today we jogged the Footlocker West course and messed around. As usual, Talon threw down some sweet side flips and Gavin set the course record in 11:56, out kicking bj in the most epic 200 meter finish you have probably never seen. True story. Later we went exploring on a run under some bridges looking for the lemon tree i found last year but we never found it. On the bright side, we spotted THE biggest squirrel this side of the Mississippi. We thought it was a large cat at first. We also found a medicine ball and half of a skate board that we shredded with for awhile. Then we did a little running on the beach.

Today was the big day. I was pretty nervous about running the seeded race. I warmed up with Talon, then went to the line to do strides. Found the winter twins and started next to them. I got wasted on the start. I knew it would go out fast, but i wasn't expecting it to be as fast as it was. I got a little boxed in the first mile and came through slower than i was expecting. (5:12 i think) I was way back but i tried to push on the hills and I made up some ground. I finished 55th which wasn't bad but i hoped to do better. I feel like after my bad race at state, i was just mentally burned out and it carried through the footlocker training. I'll take a little break, then work hard for indoor.

Im sitting in class when i get a text from bj saying "lets go to Skyview and do a nog jog". So i sit there for a moment then say "what the fetch is a nog jog and when is it." Brayden then tells me that its in 3 hours and all we gotta do is chug some nog and run laps. So i regrettfully agree to go. We drive up there right after school and meet the skyview/ mtn. crest guys on the track. The goal is to drink a glass of nog then run a lap, and repeat until it all comes out one or both of the ends... I ended up drinking 16 glasses of egg nog to beat the previous record set by Connor Mantz. Thats right, i just beat the legendary CONNOR MANTZ!! but skyview's coach also beat me..
